Zeb was born in 2020. He is a Baby Doll sheep. We had no idea that his breed existed and what an adorable little package he is. Everything about how he is put together is so unique to the other sheep we have known. He was born on a hobby farm that changed hands and the sheep there were part of the sale with no knowledge of sheep care. The flock had many breeds and they were not neutered or separated and more and more babies came each year. Eventually becoming too much for the owners. One of our veterinarians worked hard with the humans to get practices to change and to rehome sheep to knowledgeable homes. We facilitated the transport of 6 rams first to a University hospital to be neutered and then on to another Sanctuary early in 2020. Two years later, Zeb, Princess Leah, and the super senior and blind Louise needed a safe place to land. Our veterinarian asked us if we could help. That is one of the two ways animals come to One Heart Wild.
Zeb was very shy when he came. Not willing to let us get close, to the point of panic, but he was the kindest friend to Louise and her constant comfort until she passed. Over time, one of our staff made great strides in earning his trust and he now loves belly scratches of all things. Likely due to breeding issues, he has front leg complications, something we are watching closely and working with our veterinarian to provide nutritional support to mitigate future issues as much as we can. In the meantime we are loving being greeted daily by his very unique voice and the most adorable sheep face ever!
