Animal/Equine Assisted Self Development

Clients experiencing situational or low to moderate levels of depression, anxiety, boundary issues, lack of joy, moving through life transitions, shedding pleasing, perfecting and performing patterns that are limiting their experience of confidence and self-efficacy can be ideal learning/coaching, self-development candidates.
Youth experiencing the inevitable challenges of puberty, lack of self-leadership, lack of confidence, social anxiety, identity questioning, autism, low to moderate separation anxiety, impulse control and youth needing to expand their social, emotional, self-leadership skills are excellent candidates for equine experiential learning.
The duration of learning sessions can be a few sessions, a group of sessions over a couple of months, or lasting months off and on for a year or more, it just depends on each individual's progress, goals and desires.
If a client begins as a self development client but finds that old history keeps coming up and is getting in the way of making forward progress, one of three things can happen to support healing and continued growth. 1) The client can switch facilitators (or facilitators can team on behalf of the client) and work with a qualified animal/equine assisted psychotherapist on site or 2) the client may wish to alternate sessions with a therapist off site and learning or therapy sessions on site or 3) the client may be referred to an offsite therapist to work through specific challenges before resuming animal assisted services.
Very often the insights gained during animal/equine assisted self development or psychotherapy sessions become a helpful catalyst for exploring history with an offsite therapist. With permission, if desired, the animal/equine assisted services professional and off site therapist can work together as a team to support the client.
We have posted some informative information and videos about the work that is being done around the world in animal/equine assisted self development and psychotherapy on our resources page.
