Our sanctuary internships provide that and much more. All interns take part in the daily operations of the sanctuary, performing a wide array of chores, from feeding and working with animals to moving water hoses to pulling weeds and bucking hay. Interns also help guide sanctuary visits, learn and practice the principles of humane education through our outreach programs with local students and support ROOTS Institute Certification modules that happen during your internship, and help rehabilitate and socialize sanctuary residents and participate in special projects. Interns who have an interest in the business side of the nonprofit organization are also welcome to apply. We welcome your ideas and plans for implementation for programs currently in place and growing or for those that are part of our strategic plan waiting to be launched. If you have an interest in nonprofits and want hands on experience, join us for a summer or a semester.
Our internship program is typically a 28-35 hour a week, unpaid position. We can customize the program to meet your unique needs. We may be able to provide housing in a separate living space that includes bedroom, bathroom and living area with frig and microwave. Interns are responsible for their own food, transportation, and money for extracurricular activities. Internships run throughout the year, and typically last three to four months; however, some of our interns have stayed as briefly as one month and as long as nine months. The ideal candidate will enjoy the opportunity to volunteer on an education sanctuary where people, animals and the earth work together for mutual benefit. An intern is a person who is independent, can pay attention to detail, is physically able to do the work required for day to day operations, enjoys having lots of animals around, is flexible, and has a strong work ethic.
