Bruce is a 4-5 year old Angora boy who was found in Bremerton. He was underweight and covered in mites. A woman took him in, gave him medical care, and hoped he would be welcomed by their other male bunny. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Since Bruce is so connective and still in need of some medical care, we made the decision to bring him to sanctuary. Bruce is sweet and friendly and loves human affection. He quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite and we are so glad he's found his forever home at One Heart Wild.
As we have gotten to know Bruce and the complications of selective breeding for very fine hair coats we found ourselves in need of veterinary support for him on numerous occasions due to impaction colic for ingesting his fine hair. Rabbits groom a lot and under normal conditions rarely get into trouble with getting too much hair. Not the case for Bruce. We can’t do anything about his hair to eliminate the risk but we have created a special diet that consists of hay, a mash, and fresh greens, along with medication during shedding periods to keep him healthy.
