Clover's story is so unique, you will be amazed at her resilience and courage! Living in the wild, Clover found a cozy-looking home with humans and gave birth there to eight tiny babies. When Kitsap Animal Rescue and Education (KARE) reached out to us about the bunny family in need, we transferred Clover and six surviving babies to OHW on July 20, 2023. Unfortunately, despite Clover's best efforts, all but one baby struggled to gain weight. All babies were bottle-fed and supplemented through weaning. It became clear that something was wrong with Clover. A vet appointment revealed that she had a heavy load of roundworms, which also affected the babies. Further visits showed that Clover had heart disease, and was likely older than we first thought. Her enlarged heart was causing her distress and was not survivable without treatment. We started her on two kinds of medications for heart disease and she has thrived. We are so proud of our animal care team, Clover's resilience and willingness to comply with care (daily raspberries to conceal her meds), and for how OHW treats all species with the same level of care when something is wrong. Clover recently had a well-check with her veterinarian and got a glowing health report. We are so happy for her. She lives among her babies, enjoying life and receiving the continuous love and care she deserves.
